Slatington police warn residents to lock vehicles in light of car break-ins

Slatington Police Department have warned residents to lock their vehicles after several car burglaries broke out recently.

Police Chief Dave Rachman said about four or five break-ins occurred between 10:30 p.m. Aug. 6, to 9:40 a.m. Aug. 7 in the north end of town, specifically in the areas of Pine Street and Shadow Oaks Lane.

Rachman said a neighbor or someone witnessed it and chased what were believed to be younger individuals who got away.

All the cars were unlocked, while miscellaneous items such as change were taken, Rachman said.

“Don’t leave valuables in your vehicle, and if you do, lock your vehicle,” Rachman said. “Keep your houses lit up at night.”

Rachman said car break-ins in the borough seem to go in spurts.

“Here and there,” he said. “We get rashes of it throughout the year; we can go months without it.”
