Schuylkill County has received bids from two companies for the job of improving Tamaqua streets.

The Community Development Block Grant work includes repairs, reconstruction, overlays, and handicap ramp construction.

The base bids were from Lehigh Asphalt paving & Construction of Tamaqua for $215,273, and from M&J Excavation Inc. of Bloomsbury, Columbia County, for $161,995.

The bids, opened Thursday, will be reviewed before commissioners consider awarding the jobs.

In other matters, commissioners reappointed Doris Kauffman and Paul Gombola, both of Pottsville, to the Office of Senior Services advisory board for additional three-year terms.

They also appointed John Tarson of Ashland to the Schuylkill County Housing Authority board of directors to fill the unexpired term of Thaddeus Madden.

Tarson will serve from to Dec. 31, 2021.
