Woman charged after hiding wanted person from police

Police say a Lehighton woman hid a wanted person at his Nesquehoning home and lied about it.

Kaitlyn Jane Hill, 20, of Hemlock Drive, has been charged with hindering apprehension for her part in stopping Carbon County sheriff’s deputies from arresting Daniel John Thorpe.

According to an affidavit filed by the Carbon County sheriff’s office, on July 19, sheriff’s deputies went to a home on Stock Street (Route 54) in Nesquehoning to serve a bench warrant on Thorpe.

Deputies knocked on the doors and saw Thorpe in an upstairs window. He ignored their requests to surrender and moved away from the window.

Deputies again knocked on the door and Hill came to the door. She told deputies that Thorpe was not home and she didn’t know where he was.

She also said that she didn’t live at the residence and then slammed the door and locked it.

Nesquehoning police were called to assist the deputies and set up a perimeter while a search warrant was obtained.

The search warrant was executed and the front door breached after multiple failed attempts to get Thorpe or Hill to open the door.

Thorpe was found in a bedroom and surrendered.

He then told police Hill wasn’t at the home, but a search located her hiding in a closet in the same room Thorpe had been in.

Hill was taken into custody on an outstanding probation violation.

Hill now faces a preliminary hearing before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek on Aug. 29. No additional charges against Thorpe have been filed at this time.

Hill is currently incarcerated at the county prison.
