TAHS parking

Student parking at the Tamaqua Area Senior High School will once again be by permit only.

Applications for parking permits are now available in the high school office, Mondays through Thursdays, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Forms must be completed and returned no later than Aug. 2.

A total of 74 parking spaces will be available and will be assigned by lottery. Only senior and junior students are eligible for a permit, with priority given to seniors. Students will be notified by mail if they have been issued a permit. Permits will then be issued beginning Aug. 14.

Students who wish to receive parking permits are subject to the district’s drug testing policy and must register for the drug test.

Chamber concerts

The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce continues its 12th Annual Summer Concert Series on Thursday with the Big and Bad Rockabilly Cats playing hillbilly rock. The concerts are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station. Platform and dining room seating at the restaurant are available by reservation. All events are weather permitting.

The entertainment will continue on: Aug. 2, Buddy Musselman, classic rock and outlaw country; Aug. 9, The Fat Cats, rock ’n’ roll; Aug 16, Magic Stew, classic rock/jams; Aug. 23, The Bees Knees, ’60s rock and the British invasion bands.

Tamaqua seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met July 19 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 47 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “Lighthouse of the World.”

Refreshments were served.

The annual summer picnic will be held at the West Penn Rod and Gun Club on Sept. 13. Participants are to bring a dessert for sharing.

The group is open to anyone 55 or older, meeting at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the YMCA. The next meeting will be held on July 26.

Raider band

The Tamaqua Raider Band will hold Old and New Night on July 31. New members will rehearse from 4 to 6 p.m. All instrumentalists will rehearse from 6 to 8 p.m.

All rehearsals will be held in the band room.

Blood Drive

Tamaqua Masonic Lodge 238 will sponsor a blood drive for the Miller-Keystone Blood Center on July 26. The drive will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. at the lodge, located at 7 Shawn Ave., Route 54 in Hometown.

Anyone 17 or older who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good general health is eligible to donate blood. For more information, call 570-668-3852.

Primitive Methodist

Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service on Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.

Bible study sessions are held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Hope in the Mountains NFG is held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Thursday.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday at Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.

The OWLS will meet at noon on Aug. 9.
