Police: Man hit vehicle, then driver

A Luzerne County man faces multiple felony charges in Kidder Township after police say he deliberately ran his vehicle into another and then purposely struck the other driver when he got out of his vehicle, seriously injuring him.

David Parker Jr., 24, of White Haven, faces charges on two counts of recklessly endangering another person; and one count each of criminal attempt of aggravated assault by vehicle; aggravated assault by vehicle; accidents involving death or personal injury; accidents involving death or personal injury while not properly licensed; accidents involving damage to attended vehicle or property; driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked; operating vehicle without required financial responsibility; and registration and certificate of title required.

According to an affidavit of probable caused filed by Sgt. Detective Neil Yurchak of the Kidder Township Police Department:

On Wednesday, Yurchak and township police Chief Matthew Kuzma were dispatched to Route 940 near the Golden Oaks development for a motor vehicle crash in which a pedestrian was struck and was lying on the side of the roadway. They were told the vehicle that hit him had fled the scene in a black pickup.

At the scene, Yurchak saw Andrew Lovett lying on the side of the roadway complaining of pain.

Lovett’s girlfriend, who was with him at the time of the incident, told police that she and the victim were on their way back from getting gas in Blakeslee when they were traveling on Route 940 west toward White Haven.

She said that while they were driving, she noticed Parker in a black pickup at the end of his driveway.

When they passed Parker, he immediately pulled out behind them and started to follow them.

The girlfriend said Parker then struck the rear of Lovett’s vehicle. Lovett slowed down and got out of the vehicle.

The girlfriend said that Lovett got out of his vehicle in the westbound lane of travel. Parker drove at him and struck him with his truck and drove off on Route 940 west.

The girlfriend said that Lovett’s vehicle was still in drive and moving, so she immediately grabbed the steering wheel and drove the vehicle up an embankment and stopped the car.

She then went to check on Lovett, who was lying on the side of the road.

He was taken from the scene to Lake Harmony EMS to a landing zone, where he was flown to Lehigh Valley-Cedar Crest.

On Wednesday, officer David Mason received a call from Parker’s family telling them that he returned home.

Police took Parker to the station where he told them he went to the end of his driveway and was “cut off” by a white car. He said the driver got out of his car and attacked his truck, so he left in fear of his life.

Parker denied having any knowledge of who was occupying the vehicle at the time of the incident, and also said he might have hit the man with the side mirror of his vehicle.

Yurchak asked Parker where he drove his truck to after the incident, and he said that he drove his truck about 200 yards into the woods to hide it.

Parker is incarcerated in Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 cash bail.

Parker is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. July 25 before District Judge Joseph Homanko of Weatherly.
