Lehighton Band to present second free concert

The Lehighton Band plans to hold its second summer concert of the year at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Upper Park amphitheater.

The band will start the concert with the playing of the national anthem, followed by John Phillips Sousa’s “Liberty Bell March.”

The overture for the evening is a contemporary piece of music by Steven Reineke titled “River of Life,” which illustrates the twists, turns, calmness and turbulence of life portrayed through the changes in the moods of the music.

The band continues the concert with show tunes from the musical “Jersey Boys.”

Next, the band will present the hymn “Abide With Me,” which was donated to the band by Kenneth Leffler in memory of his parents, Ernest and Dorothy Leffler.

“Country Hits in Concert” will be the next number, and it includes “You Needed Me,” “Rocky Top,” “Through the Years” and “Elvira.”

The band continues with its first soloist, Eliza Asmann, who will play the trumpet solo “If I Loved You” from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical “Carousel.”

The band will then perform selections from the move “Titanic.”

The concert will continue with its second soloist, Laura Cressley, who will perform Coppola’s flute solo the “Carnival of Venice.”

Following the solo, Cressley will be joined by flutist Vickie Malloy with a flute duet titled “Samba for Flutes.”

The concert will continue with “Cour d’Alene,” and will conclude with John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.”

The band is under the direction of Bradly R. Cressley, with Barry Gangwer acting as emcee for the program.

The Lehighton Band presents three free concerts in the borough park.

The remaining summer concert will be at 8 p.m. Aug. 16.

All concerts are free to the public. A free will offering will be accepted.
