Electrical fire at Pleasant Valley Elementary

Pleasant Valley Elementary School sustained minor damage after an electrical fire broke out in one section of the building Sunday night.

The incident occurred around 8:10 p.m. when smoke was reported in the building at 476 Polk Township Road.

Polk Township Fire Chief Billy Tippett said the cause was an electrical issue in one of the control panels.

Tippett said the situation took about 45 minutes to an hour to get under control.

“We could see a haze of smoke, but couldn’t find it,” Tippett said. “It was in one section of the school, the ‘B’ section of the school.”

Tippett said firefighters were on scene for about an hour-and-a-half.

No injuries were reported, as no one was inside the building, he said.

Also assisting at the scene were the Kunkletown Fire Department, Blue Ridge Hook and Ladder, West End Fire Company, Towamensing Township Fire Company, and Franklin Township Fire Company, Tippett said.

“In relation to the bridge being out in Kresgeville, that’s probably the reason for six companies (responding),” he said. “It takes time to get people to the firehouse (because) changes were made in relation to the bridge project on (Route) 209 as to not affect service in any time in the township.”
