LV eliminated from Carpenter Cup

Lehigh Valley ran into an offensive buzz saw during the quarterfinal round of the annual Carpenter Cup Classic on Monday.

Delaware North scored runs in every inning, including multiple runs in all but one frame, to post a convincing 26-9 victory.

Three Times News area players participated in the contest, two from Palmerton and one from Northwestern.

The Blue Bombers’ Ben Serfass entered the game at shortstop in the fifth and reached base in both his plate appearances. Serfass delivered an RBI single in the seventh. In the ninth, he reached on an error and scored a run.

Palmerton’s Ryan King also saw action, getting time on the mound. King struck out two batters in the fourth, and got two outs in the fifth before being relieved. In the fifth, he allowed four runs, but all of them were unearned as Lehigh Valley committed two errors in the frame.

King was relieved by Northwestern’s Mason Vogwill, who pitched 1 1/3 innings. Vogwill allowed two hits, two walks, and two runs (one earned), while striking out two.

The loss eliminated Lehigh Valley from the tournament.
