The West End Planning and Open Space Commission meet at 6:30 p.m. today at the Chestnuthill Township Park building in Brodheadsville.

PVEN events

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network board of directors will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is holding its annual volunteers picnic Thursday at 6 to 8 p.m. in the grove of St. Matthew’s UCC Church in Kunkletown.

Lunch menu

Chestnuthill Seniors, meeting at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville on Wednesdays and Fridays, can order a pork chop for their Friday meal and Yankee pot roast for next Wednesday’s luncheon.

However, the meal choice must be called in to the site manager at 570-242-6770 by 11 a.m. the day before.

Jewelry sale

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) 1113 of Kresgeville will be hosting a Paparazzi jewelry sale from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church at 138 Trach Road in Kresgeville.

Jewelry for women, men and kids will be available for a reasonable cost and available to take home that day. TOPS weekly meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. and all interested in learning more about this weight loss support group are invited to attend.

WELL board

The board of directors for the West End Little League is slated to meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville. This meeting is for board members only. An open league meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. June 21, also at the park building.

School board

The Pleasant Valley School District‘s Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Commencement

The Pleasant Valley School District 2018 commencement is on the calendar for 7 p.m. Friday.

Dual holiday

Thursday is Flag Day, as well as the U.S. Army celebrating its birthday.

Following Flag Day are Honor America Days, a 21-day period through to July 4 to honor America. During this period, people hold public gatherings and activities to celebrate and honor the nation.

There will be a Flag Day ceremony at the American Legion Post home in Gilbert at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The event is open to the public and will include offering proper disposal of retired U.S. flags.

Elder Justice Day

Older adults of Monroe County, as well as their families and caregivers, are invited to attend a free, conference-style venue, being held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Hughes Cancer Center, Serenity and Tranquility rooms.

It will include presentations and discussions by professionals and experts on critical elder abuse topics facing older adults here in Monroe County, as well as local community vendor tables/representatives, information and more.

There is no fee to attend this event, however seating is limited, so registration is required. The day includes lunch and raffle baskets, for which one must be present in order to win.
