Driver injured when he swerves to avoid deer, crashes

A driver was seriously injured Wednesday night trying to avoid a deer along Tumbling Run Road in Blythe Township.

The crash occurred at 8:45 p.m. as the driver was heading east when the deer ran out.

The car struck and killed the deer.

The driver apparently swerved to avoid the deer crossing the roadway, entering the north berm where the car hit a tree head on.

The driver was trapped for about 45 minutes before being freed by fire companies from Blythe township, New Philadelphia and Pottsville.

Blythe township police are investigating the incident.
