May 24, 1996 — Lehighton’s Denele Brozino advances to the semifinals in both the 100 and 200 at states and also anchors the Indians’ 400 relay team that sets a new school record. Brozino takes third in her 100 preliminary race in a time of 12.94 and fifth in the 200 at 26.89. Brozino, along with Tracy Hunsicker, Tonya Kintz and Shawnee Serfass, don’t advance in the 400 relay but run a 50.87 to lower their previous school mark of 51.2. Palmerton’s Amanda Samok also reaches a final, placing sixth in the 1600 in 5:31.03. Samok will take 12th in the event.
