Athletic awards

Pleasant Valley Athletic Awards are being presented at 6 p.m. today.

PVI chorus

The fifth-grade chorus is being presented at Pleasant Valley Intermediate at 7:30 p.m. today.

The sixth-grade chorus program is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

PVI PTO

The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School PTO is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Thursday.

CJERP meets

The Chestnuthill-Jackson-Eldred-Ross-Polk Regional Comprehensive Committee meeting is at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township municipal building in Brodheadsville.

WE Dems

The West End Democratic Club meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the West End Fire Hall in Brodheadsville.

PV Board

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Administrative Building.

Seniors menu

The Seniors’ menu for this Friday at the Chestnuthill Center, taking place in Zion’s Fellowship Hall, is glazed ham. For next Wednesday it is chicken and sausage bake.

Reservations for lunches must be made by 11 a.m. the day before at 570-242-6770.

Hoagie sale

The Western Pocono Lions Club is holding hoagie sale. Delivery date is June 20 at Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kresgeville.

Orders and payment must be gotten to Linda Hinton at 570-801-7509 by June 11.

Awaken here

Girlfriends Conference is coming to the Pleasant Valley High School in Brodheadsville Friday and Saturday. The Friday event begins at 7 p.m., the Saturday time is 10 a.m.

There is a special rate for Friday and Saturday attendance and also for students, seniors and single moms.

Preregistration can be made online at www.pavg.net. At the door registration will be a bit more.

Effort pantry

The Supplemental Food Resource Center sponsored by Effort United Methodist Church will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

This ministry is an outreach serving the communities of Effort, Gilbert, Kunkletown, Kresgeville, Brodheadsville, Saylorsburg, Sciota and Albrightsville.

A valid driver’s license or state ID with address proving residency in the West End is required.

Helping neighbors

Salem-St. Paul’s Sunday school in Kresgeville has had several months of focusing on neighbors and taking a collection of things to benefit said neighbors during its Sunday school times.

For the month of May the focus is helping neighbors who live at Pleasant Valley Manor. Items being collected will benefit residents there.

The Sunday school will be hosting a Family Olympics as its next event. It will take place on Sunday after the 10:30 a.m. service.

This event will be featuring cooperative style games for families to participate together. Church families are reminded to acknowledge joining the planners and what country the family would like to represent at https://bit.ly/2GGlawr so that planning can be done accordingly.

OTOH travels

Operation: Touch of Home will be attending the air show at the Pocono Mountains Municipal Airport in Mount Pocono on Sunday.

The group will be will be selling its Red Friday apparel, hats, wrist bands and stickers.

Special service

Effort UMC will host its special Memorial Day services Sunday at 8:30 and 11 a.m.

Generous donors

The Monroe County Garden Club thanks all the people and merchants who made its May luncheon such a success. The members and their guests had a spectacular time.

Due to the donations, the club was able to send two children to Conservation Camp this summer.

Memorial program

Polk Township will again host a Memorial Day program at Adam’s Faith Garden in Kresgeville. It will be on Sunday and begin at 2 p.m.

Memorial Day event

The American Legion Post 927 will hold a Memorial Day Remembrance ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday. Speakers include state Rep. Jack Rader and state Sen. Mario Scavello. A light lunch with cash bar will follow the ceremony.

New officers

GFWC Western Pocono Women’s Club held its monthly meeting at Boulder View Tavern Lake Harmony on Monday. At this special May banquet, the club installed its officers for the 2018-19 club year. Pam Borger of Kresgeville is the newly elected president. Joan Bumbulsky of Effort will serve as first vice president and Stacy Meckes of Kunkletown. Mary Minnucci of Saylorsburg was installed as treasurer and Blakeslee resident, Ruthann Stiehler, will be the secretary.

At the banquet, Keri Byrne of Kunkletown was initiated as a new member.

Earlier in May the membership helped in the Project Healing Waters, which took place at the Indian Mountain Rod & Gun Club in Kresgeville. This is a fly fishing program for veterans.

Club ladies from the Western Pocono Women’s Club and club ladies from Pocono Mountain Women’s Club prepared the food as well as thanked the veterans for their service and listened to their stories.

Road constructions

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will commence work on the replacement of the bridge over Chapple Creek just south of Bollinger Road on June 15. Silver Spring Boulevard will be closed for approximately six weeks until July 23.

The detour route will be: Molasses Valley Road to Fiddletown Road to Kunkletown Road.

The start of a construction project to replace the Route 209 (Interchange Road) bridge, spanning Middle Creek in Kresgeville Township has been rescheduled to begin the week of June 11. It was previously scheduled to begin during the week of May 28, as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Rapid Bridge Replacement Project.

During this time, an alternating traffic pattern will be controlled by temporary traffic signals. The new bridge is anticipated to be complete in December.

In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may still change.

Hollywood trip

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) 1113 Kresgeville is sponsoring a bus trip to Hollywood Casino and Racetrack, close to Hershey on June 16.

Baseball time

A night of baseball, fun and fellowship for the North District of the United Methodist Church has been planned for July 6 at the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs game against the Rochester Red Wings. This game has a 7:05 p.m. start and the gates open at 5:45 p.m. There will be fireworks following the game.

St. Matthew’s VBS

St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, is wrapping up Sunday school this month and thinking about Vacation Bible School which will be held at the church from July 9-13 for children ages 3 and up. A parent or adult may stay with preschool age kids for a Mommy and Me experience.

The theme for VBS this summer is Splash Canyon by Concordia Publishing House. Participants will dive into stories such as Baby Moses in the river and the baptism of Jesus, according to Staci Gower, coordinator of Christian formation.
