Jim Thorpe Lions Club honors Students of the Month

The Jim Thorpe Lions Club held its annual Student of the Month awards dinner in the cafeteria of the Jim Thorpe Area High School to recognize and honor eight students. The Lions Club has been recognizing the academic success of Jim Thorpe High School seniors since 1974.

The students are chosen by the faculty as not to have favoritism by Lions Club members. The criteria stresses they do not need to have the best grade in a particular subject, only that they have the desire to succeed in a given subject.

This year’s Students of the Month are: October, business education, Zachary Gilliar; November, physical education, Sarah Gabel; January, music, Samantha Sterner; February, art, Alexis Capria; March, technical education, John Fedora; April, foreign language, German, Chiara Vea; April, foreign language, Spanish, Christopher Williams; and May, computer technology, Jason Scott.

Each student received a plaque at the awards dinner, and at the school’s annual awards assembly a representative from the Jim Thorpe Lions Club will present each student with a $50 check from the club.
