Lehigh Valley Hospital — Pocono reconsidering Hospice House closing

Last month residents packed the Monroe County Commissioners meeting outraged by Lehigh Valley Health Network’s unexpected closing of the Hospice House. The hospital moved the operations to Lehigh Valley Hospital — Pocono campus.

During the meeting, Chairman John Moyer made a commitment to those present to try to bring the sides together for a discussion.

On Friday, Lehigh Valley Health Network released a statement indicating that the hospital was open to a discussion on the subject.

“We heard our community and know how much you care,” said Brian Downs, Public Information Officer for the network. “We intend to work with community leaders, foundation board members and VNA/Hospice Board members to bring together and advisory group to explore options related to the Hospice House and the hospice program.”

Downs added that the group would explore its options over a 90-day period and would provide its findings in early August.

“We will continue to support our community at The Hospice House with bereavement and support services during the exploration. This includes the development of a special garden to display memory bricks and a yearly remembrance ceremony on the grounds,” Downs said. “We will keep the community informed of services and activities available at the Hospice House.”
