The seven deadly sins have never been this funny

Vicki Quade, the creator and co-author of “Late Nite Catechism,” thinks the title of her interactive comedy, “Mrs. Mary Margaret O’Brien’s Guide to the Golden Rule” says it all: Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the classroom, Mrs. O’Brien shows up, this time without her habit!

“Mrs. O’Brien’s Guide to the Golden Rule” will be performed at the Mauch Chunk Opera House at 2 p.m., Sunday as a benefit for St. Joseph Regional Academy in Jim Thorpe.

Mrs. Mary Margaret O’Brien, played by Quade, touches on modern sins, how to spot them, how to avoid them.

O’Brien, a former nun with an attitude, heads the archdiocese’s fundraising department, but once a nun, always a nun in spirit. You’ll be laughing your sins off.

Quade calls the show “a funny refresher course in a modern look at the Golden Rule.”

“Mrs. O’Brien is in charge and she has her own opinions on just about everything, from the shade of your lipstick to the iPod in your pocket,” Quade says. “So many people in our audiences have responded to our new character because they no longer remember the nuns in habit. But they do love the religious humor of our shows, with our new character.”

In 1993, Quade brought to life an idea for a one-woman show that would become the hit comedy, “Late Nite Catechism,” which has been running in Chicago since 1993 and turned into a national and international hit, with productions in more than 150 cities.

Each show is used to raise much-needed retirement funds for orders of nuns throughout the country. Quade has helped raise more than $3 million in donations to various orders of nuns nationwide.
