Schuylkill commissioners focusing on addiction fight
Schuylkill County commissioners stepped up the fight against addiction Wednesday by increasing contract caps for agencies working with the county Drug & Alcohol Commission.
They are Clinical Outcomes Group, whose prevention contract cap was increased from $25,000 to $35,000; Gaudenzia Inc., whose inpatient contract cap was increased from $80,000 to $95,000; Choices of Northeastern Pennsylvania, whose contract cap was increased from $10,000 to $18,000; Pyramid Healthcare, whose contract cap was increased from $90,000 to $105,000; and Bowling Green Brandywine, whose contract cap was increased from $15,000 to $25,000.
In other matters Wednesday, commissioners granted approval for three employees the recorder of deeds, first deputy and office solicitor to attend the 2018 Pennsylvania Recorder of Deeds annual conference in Hershey from June 11 through June 15.
Also on Wednesday, commissioners agreed to submit a revision for the 2014 Community Development Block Grant program to add funds for the Holy Family Apartments line item in the amount of $3,371. The money was left over from the McAdoo stormwater project.
Commissioners also approved a new Open Records officer. The action was needed because the current officer, Chief Clerk Darlene Laughlin, will retire at the end of the month.
The new officer is paralegal Lois Lebo.
Written requests for access to public records may be submitted by a requester in person, via mail, fax or email to Lebo at the county solicitor’s office, Schuylkill County courthouse, 401 N. Second St., Pottsville, PA 17901; by fax to Lebo at 570-628-0731; or by email to llebo@co.schuylkill.pa.us.
Also, commissioners rescinded a motion made at the April 18 work session to increase the cap amount of a $99,626 contract for an insurance policy with Midwest Casualty Company for excess workers’ compensation cost by $6,330.
The increase would have raised the cap to $105,956 for 2017-18.
Instead, commissioners approved increasing the cap by $6,330, to $208,642 for 2017-18 and 2018-19.
