Jim Thorpe track sweeps Tamaqua

Records are made to be broken.

Jim Thorpe sprinter Jarrin Geisinger proved that to be true on Wednesday in the Olympians’ Schuylkill League dual meet with Tamaqua.

Geisinger, on what was another blustery day, glided to a school-record 11.20 time in the 100 meter dash, surpassing 2012 Thorpe graduate P.J. Johnson’s 11.21. Geisinger’s record-breaking performance set the tone for the Olympians, who beat the Raiders in both the boys and girls competition.

The Olympians took the boys meet 92-58 to stay undefeated on the season, while the girls kept themselves in the Division 1 hunt with a 75-74 win.

Even with Thorpe’s key wins on the day, the story of the afternoon was Geisinger’s blistering run in the 100 — in conditions that once again weren’t ideal for sprinters.

“I set an individual goal this season to go and get that school record. It’s something I’ve worked hard for and really focused on, so I’m glad I was able to accomplish that,” said Geisinger. “As a team, I think we’re really starting to gain momentum. We’re having a lot of fun, and we’re excited what we can do if we stay focused.”

Jim Thorpe head coach Frank Miller isn’t surprised that Geinsinger was able to set the school record. Miller credits the junior’s work ethic and determination as reasons why he has cemented himself in the record books.

“Jarrin has a tireless work ethic, he asks all the right question, he really wants to soak up as much information as he can to make himself better each and every day,” said Miller. “When you pair his talent with how coachable he is, what you see is what happened today.”

Helping out Geisinger on the day on the boys side was Sam Hydro (800M, 1,600M), who came through with two huge wins for the Olympians in the distance events. William Munson collected big points for Thorpe in the javelin and the shot put.

In girls action, the Olympians edged the Raiders, which gives them a chance to win the Schuylkill League Division 1 crown for the first time ever.

Jim Thorpe sprinter Emma Dunbar has been one of the more dominant sprinters in the league this season and didn’t disappoint on Wednesday. Dunbar took home first in both the 100 and 200 meters.

“Today was a big win, and we knew coming into today that this was one that we had to have,” said Dunbar. “We had a lot of people get some personal best times today and that’s what we needed. I’m just glad I was able to help do my part to help us come away with the win.”

Kylee Dulski took care of business in both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, while Devin Lignore was tops in two events in the throwing department, winning both the discus and shot put. Debbie Lloyd was also impressive on the day, winning both the triple jump and the pole vault.

STRIVING FOR TWO ... With one dual meet left, both the Thorpe boys and girls could walk away with Division 1 championships if they can take care of business against Blue Mountain. If the boys get a win, they will win the Division 1 crown outright.

RAIDER REPORT ... For the girls on the day, Tamaqua took all three of the relay events. On the boys side, Pierce Demetriades took home first in the pole vault and Zeno Zukovich got a win in the 110 hurdles.
