9/11 trail ride held in Carbon County

The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor honored America’s fallen heroes by participating in the Sept. 11 National Memorial Trail Alliance advisory board ride on Sunday.

The five participants, which included Andy Hamilton, Wayne Clark, Cyndi Steiner, Anne Maleady and Eric Brenner, rode 44 miles on the D&L Trail from Weissport to Easton and departed from the D&L trailhead at Weissport Canal Park. This was part of their 23-day, 1,300-mile journey, which began April 11 at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia.

Following their stay in Weissport, the participants had a special send-off by the Lehighton Fire Department. They then made their way along the D&L Trail through Lehigh and Northampton counties, making stops in Lehighton, East Penn Township and Slatington.

The ride is part of the movement to commemorate the route between the World Trade Center, Pentagon and Flight 93 National Memorial.
