Retired SARCC CEO to be honored with statewide award

The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape will honor Jenny Murphy-Shifflet with the prestigious Vision of Hope Award on Saturday.

Murphy-Shifflet recently retired as the President/CEO of the Sexual Assault Resource and Counseling Center of Lebanon and Schuylkill Counties.

The staff at SARCC nominated her for the award in celebration of 29 years of service to children and adults impacted by sexual violence.

Each year the Vision of Hope Award is given to an individual who has demonstrated leadership, commitment and vision in their work to prevent child sexual abuse and promote healing services. Murphy-Shifflet has propelled this work at SARCC for decades.

“The Vision of Hope Committee could not have made a better choice than Jenny Murphy-Shifflet,” said SARCC President/CEO Ali Mailen Perrotto. “Our offices in both Lebanon and Pottsville tell the story of SARCC’s commitment to child sexual abuse prevention and response.”

During her acclaimed career as an advocate for the rights and needs of children, Murphy- Shifflet pioneered partnerships in the community. She worked tirelessly to bring a satellite location for the Children’s Resource Center to Lebanon County. Through her leadership, the center established a children’s therapy program and brought holistic healing modalities into the fold of services offered at no-cost to the community.

In addition to groundbreaking work in advocacy and counseling services, Murphy-Shifflet has fostered community education for the prevention of child sexual abuse since the organization opened its doors in 1983. SARCC provides education to children of all ages, including programs in day cares, elementary schools, and secondary schools. Programs are also available to adults in the community, helping them to build knowledge and skills needed to protect young people.

Murphy-Shifflet will accept her award at the Annual Vision of Hope Gala at the Hershey Lodge.
