Garden club

Despite the chilly weather, the Lewistown Valley Garden Club is sure spring is just around the corner.

Club members met March 27 for a presentation by Ted Chrin on the making of Pysanki eggs. Chrin explained the origins and traditions of the eggs and how they are created and decorated. One of his creations was awarded to Marie Barth.

Evelyn Adams and Mary Bridygham shared first place honors for the monthly arrangement contest.

The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on April 24. The meeting will be held in the social hall at Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley and will include the annual Spring Tea.

Megan Anderson of Porvaznik’s Flowers, Lansford, will provide the program.

Tamaqua seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met April 5 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 49 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “Our Wish for You.” She also asked members to keep her nephew, Ralph, in their prayers.

Ann Fedor received a warm welcome upon her return to the group.

The April 20 trip to the casino has been canceled.

Refreshments were served.

The group is open to anyone 55 or older, meeting at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the YMCA.

Primitive Methodist

Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service on Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. Sunday school class is held at 9:30 a.m.

The board of trustees will meet at 7 p.m. on April 11.

Hope in the Mountains NFG is held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Thursday.

The sacred rite of infant Baptism will be celebrated on April 22.

St. Peter’s Union

The Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. St. Peter’s Union Church in Mantzville.

Also on Sunday, Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m., junior choir rehearsal will be at 11 a.m., Confirmation class meets at 11:15 a.m., Girl and Boy Scouts meet at 6 p.m.

Next week’s activities include: Monday, church board meets at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., called to care committee meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, cherub choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m., senior choir rehearsal will be at 7 p.m.
