Lansford man faces multiple charges

A Lansford man faces multiple charges after he drove drunk and hit a parked car.

On Jan. 21, at 2:36 a.m., Nesquehoning police were dispatched to West Railroad Street for a report of a parked vehicle being struck by another car. The caller said that the driver of a red Mustang was currently trying to start the vehicle and leave the scene after striking the parked car.

Upon arrival, police found the Mustang across the roadway, blocking traffic. Damage to the driver side door, rear fender and rear wheel were observed and the driver, later identified as Daryl Greenawalt, 55, of West Bertsch Street, Lansford, was sitting behind the wheel trying to make a call on his cellphone.

The owner of the parked car was standing next to his vehicle and told police Greenawalt moved the Mustang and was trying to get it restarted after it stalled until he noticed that someone was taking a picture of his license plate.

When police approached the Mustang, Greenawalt slowly got out of the vehicle and told police he had his license suspended two days earlier.

Officers noticed a strong odor of alcohol on Greenawalt, who showed signs of intoxication. Results from a blood draw showed Greenawalt’s BAC was 0.123. His license was also suspended since Jan. 17 as a result of a DUI-related offense.

Greenawalt faces two counts of DUI, and one count each driving while suspended; a BAC greater than 0.02 percent; and careless driving
