Northern Lehigh’s Horn fires no-hitter

Northern Lehigh’s Alicia Horn tossed a no-hitter to highlight Friday’s scholastic sports action.

SOFTBALL

Catasauqua-No. Lehigh

Horn’s no-hitter propelled Northern Lehigh to an 11-0 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

Horn silenced the Catty bats over five innings to help the Bulldogs post the mercy-rule victory.

Kaitlin Hoffman went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, and three RBIs to lead the Northern Lehigh offense. Horn (three runs, two RBIs), Shyanna Williams (one run, two RBIs) and Olivia Toth (two runs), all chipped in a pair of hits.

Shenandoah-Marian

Quest Wilson and Marian opened their season in fine form, rolling to a 4-0 Schuylkill League victory over Shenandoah.

Wilson tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out four.

Max Nolter led the Colts offensively with a home run, a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Matt Doherty added two hits, including a double, and Alex Kubishin had a single and scored a pair of runs.

Palmerton posted a 9-4 Colonial League victory over Moravian Academy.

Wade Haydt got the pitching victory for the Bombers, tossing four innings of two-hit, no-run ball. He struck out six.

Tanner Burnett had a triple, a walk, a stolen base, three RBI, and a run scored to lead the Palmerton offense. Brody Boehler added a single, a double, a stolen base and a run scored.

Catasauqua rolled to a 24-1 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh

The Rough Riders banged out 27 hits in the game. Leading the way were J. June with four hits, four RBIs and two runs scored and L. Creyer with four hits and two RBIs. C. Raysely scored four runs and knocked in three.

For Northern Lehigh, Brandon Hess had two hits and Chad Wanamaker had a double and scored his team’s only run.

NDES-Jim Thorpe

A three-set win at No. 2 doubles was the deciding factor as Jim Thorpe edged Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg, 3-2.

The Olympian duo of Connor Rogers and Matt Widdicombe came through in the clutch, pulling out a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory.

Jim Thorpe also got straight-set singles victories from Emilio Mercado and Raymond O’Neil.

The Olympians improved to 3-2 on the season.

Lehighton swept the singles matches to defeat Pottsville, 3-2 in a non-league match.

Maura Phelan and Olivia Frendt posted straight set victories for the Indians at No. 1 and No. 3 singles respectively. Mark Solt picked up the other singles win when his opponent had to forfeit after being injured.
