Deadline to fill Northern Lehigh’s empty board of directors seat extended

Northern Lehigh School District has extended a deadline to fill a vacant seat on its board of directors.

Candidates now have until 4 p.m. Monday to apply for the post, according to Sharon Sherman, confidential secretary to the superintendent.

Sherman said the decision to stretch out the cutoff point was made after no one applied to fill the seat as of noon on Thursday.

The school board is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, but would start the meeting at 7:15 p.m. to interview potential candidates, she said.

Director Debra Bower resigned from the board last month due to health reasons.

Whoever is chosen to fill the seat will serve until 2019. At that point, the seat will be only a two-year seat to complete the end of Bower’s term, which expires in 2021.

Bower was appointed to the board in March 2016.

She replaced former Director Natalie Green, who resigned from her seat in February 2016.

Green was originally appointed to the board in June 2010.
