Carbon County court

A Carbon County man admitted to damaging police property and a drug count last Thursday in the county court.

He entered a guilty plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Michael Miller, 48, of Summit Hill, pleaded guilty to one count each of institutional vandalism and persistent disorderly conduct for an incident on May 16, 2016, in Franklin Township and to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia for an incident on May 5, 2016, in Lansford.

In the Franklin incident, Miller was found along Interchange Road in a drunken condition. He became unruly with township police. When placed in a police cruiser he banged his head on the screening separating the front and back seats. At the police station he continued his conduct and damaged property in the station.

In the Lansford incident he was again intoxicated and found in the area of Walnut Street and East Kline Avenue by police after they responded to a suspicious person report.

Miller apologized for his actions, stating his prior contact with law enforcement was 15 years ago.

On the vandalism count Nanovic sentenced him to serve one to 12 months in prison. On the conduct charge and drug count he was placed on probation for a year on each count, all running concurrently.

He was also ordered to get both a drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations and make restitution for damages at the police station of $100.

He was given credit for 21 days spent in jail on the charges. He will serve the remaining nine days on consecutive two-day weekends beginning at 7 p.m. on April 13.

He must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
