Discussion on native plants in Bethlehem

The Sierra Club will present a talk by Sue Tantris for Edge of the Woods Native Plant Nursery at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Charles A. Brown Ice House, 56 River St., Sand Island, Bethlehem. Admission is free.

The topic will be “Bring life to our landscape with native plants: preserving and restoring native plant communities.”

Why are native plants important in our landscapes? Tantris will not only define what a native plant is but also talk about how native plants serve our environment and how we can bring diverse and sustainable landscapes back to our backyards and natural areas.

The discussion will include how to:

• Create a good habitat for birds, bees, butterflies, beneficial insects, and other wildlife.

• Conserve our water, clean our air and support our pollinators

• Grow without adding unneeded fertilizers and pesticides
