Man admits to false imprisonment of wife

A former Carbon County resident admitted his part in the false imprisonment of his wife late last year.

Ronald P. Dries, 35, formerly of Lansford and now of Tamaqua, pleaded guilty in the county court on Monday to one count of false imprisonment with a charge of unlawful restraint dropped in a plea bargain.

Dries and his sister, Tina Dries, 38, of Lansford, were charged for an incident on Dec. 28, 2017, at a residence along East Bertsch Street.

The Drieses were arrested Jan. 2 for an alleged assault on Ronald Dries’ wife. According to court documents, the wife told police that on the night of Dec. 28, Tina Dries hit her over the head with a ceramic Nativity scene, and repeatedly slammed her head into the floor.

The alleged attacks occurred after the siblings were reportedly drinking at their East Bertsch Street residence.

The victim also told police that they prevented her from leaving the house by locking her in a bathroom and manipulating door locks in the house.

She reportedly left the home the next morning as Ronald slept and asked neighbors to call 911.

Police observed blood on her face and bruising and swelling on her head.

Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered he make restitution of $107 to the victim, have no contact with her and render 50 hours of community service.

Tina Dries was charged with six criminal counts for her part in the incident. Her case is pending.
