PPL reports complete power restoration by Wednesday

PPL has officially notified Carbon and Monroe County customers that their power should be completely restored by 11 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7.

Regional affairs director Alana Roberts said that the area was among the most heavily impacted by the storm, and PPL employees are working diligently to address the outages.

Chestnuthill Township reported 5,150 customer power outages at 10 p.m. on Friday, and Polk Township saw 1,750, more than half of the customer base in each area. According to PPL's Outage Center, Polk was still without power on Saturday evening, though outages in Chestnuthill were reduced to just below 4,000 customers.

Carbon County is fairing slightly better, with about 2,500 customers experiencing outages. Franklin and Mahoning Township are currently showing just over 500 outages each, and Penn Forest lists just under 700.

"We have nearly 3,000 workers who are working on 2,000 repair jobs affecting 98,000 customers," Roberts said. "We are working around the clock on this restoration, not only in the field, but here at the office with customer support."

Roberts clarified that "complete restoration" means that every outage will be fixed, whereas many customers in throughout the PPL service area will have their power restored before Wednesday. Approximately 75,000 customers have had their power restored already.

The aftermath of Friday's nor'easter has greatly affected PPL's capability to fix the outages, not only locally, but state-wide.

"Repairs have been difficult due to travel conditions and closed roads. There are over 2,000 repairs right now, many of which are complex and require multiple crews," Roberts said. "We are doing our absolute best to coordinate our efforts efficiently and effectively so that we can get service back to our customers."
