Two facing drug charges after stop

Two Nesquehoning residents are facing drug charges following a vehicle stop by borough police.

Police identified the suspects as Helenne Michelle Yonkovitch, 38, of 64 W. Garibaldi Ave., and Wash Tyahla, 53, of 6 W. Marconi St. Yonkovitch is charged with possession of a controlled substance – crystal methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and motor vehicle code violation of driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked. Tyahla is charged with prohibited acts in that he possessed a prescription bottle with no labeling and controlled substances in it.

On Feb. 7 police were dispatched to 64 W. Garibaldi Ave., for a report of individuals attempting to cut the cable wires outside the residence. The report also said the persons involved were in a silver sedan with the rear window out of it.

As police officer Richard Neikam responded, he observed the vehicle in question stopped waiting to make a right turn onto Angelini Avenue from West Garibaldi Avenue. Neikam identified Yonkovitch as the driver, and due to previous contacts, knew her license was under suspension. A vehicle stop was conducted. Neiham also made contact with the communications center, which confirmed the license suspension and that there were warrants out for Yonkovitch’s arrest.

Through the course of the investigation, Yonkovitch admitted having in her possession a pink zipper bag containing meth, which she had hidden when she observed police, and also had a clear plastic zip close baggie with meth, two straws with residue, white wax packet commonly used to store heroin with a bull symbol and the words “wi-fight,” plus a small pink pill stamped S4.

Tyahla was a front seat passenger and was found to have a pill container that did not have a label on it and contained a paper towel and 12 white round pills which later tested positive for oxycodone. Also found on Tyahla was 20 oxycodone pills in a silver container that was attached to his key ring. He was advised it was not legal to carry around medication without a proper label.

Both were taken into custody and charged. Yonkovitch was transported to the county prison on the outstanding warrants.
