West End news for Feb. 21, 2018

Joint services

For some years five churches in Monroe County’s West End and Carbon County’s East End have been holding joint Lenten services. The churches are Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kresgeville, Salem UCC in Gilbert, St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown, Jerusalem Lutheran in Trachsville and Jerusalem UCC in Trachsville.

The theme for this year is: Thy Will be Done.

Tonight’s service will be at Jerusalem Lutheran in Trachsville. The preacher will be Dorothy Hepner, Lay Leader at Salem UCC, Gilbert.

The evening begins with at 6 p.m. simple soup dinner. An ecumenical choir will practice at 6:30 and the worship service begins at 7 p.m.

Host choir directors will choose an easy anthem. Choir members from all churches are encouraged to attend the 6:30 p.m. rehearsal and sing each week.

Church offering envelopes received will be forwarded to their respective churches. Loose offering received will go to the host church.

In case of inclement weather, one can check Channel 13, WSBG and/or WVPO for service cancellation information.

The host church will also place cancellation notice on their respective answering machine if possible.
