Kidder Township orders new police vehicle

Before giving his report for the month, Police Chief Matthew Kuzma asked those present to give a moment of silence to remember the 17 people shot and killed in Parkland, Florida, on Wednesday.

The Kidder Township supervisors approved a contract with Kovatch to purchase a new Ford Interceptor SUV. The SUV will cost the township $27,406.97.

The supervisors also approved an ordinance to amend the Emergency Services Commission to include two additional residents on the panel. The commission will now include four residents rather than two.

Chairman Thomas Bradley Jr. said residents on the commission are not required to have emergency services experience, but that it wouldn’t hurt. The four residents chosen by the board submitted letters of interest.

The board appointed Steve Lilick, former deputy chief at Lake Harmony Volunteer Fire Company, Jim Dau who has past experience in both EMS and fire service, Joe McAleer a retired Philadelphia firefighter and Tim Flannery who has extensive background in fire service.

The four will each serve a one-year term.

The township is also looking for two people who would be interested in joining the Environmental Advisory Commission and one person to join the planning commission. Township Manager Lisa Klem asked that anyone interested send their letter of interest to the township for review.

The police department has hired Dinu Dermargosian as a new part-time patrolman. Dermargosian will earn $18 per hour.
