Carbon man admits assault, damage to holding cell

A Carbon County man admitted to an assault charge in the county court on Friday. He entered a guilty plea before Judge Steven R. Serfass.

Lance Moser Jr., 27, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count of simple assault, as a misdemeanor two, for an incident that occurred in the 400 block of North First Street, filed by Lehighton police. He also pleaded to one count of institutional vandalism.

He was charged with assaulting a man and then fleeing with the victim’s wallet. After being taken into custody, he damaged a holding cell at the borough police station.

In a plea bargain with the district attorney’s office felony counts of robbery (two counts) and aggravated assault were dropped.

He is currently an inmate in the county prison and is facing a state parole violation.

Moser told the court, “I’ve done some things I never should have done.”

On the assault count Serfass sentenced him to serve 12 to one day less 24 months in prison, and on the vandalism count six to 12 months concurrent.

He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim, render a total of 175 hours of community service when paroled and make restitution of $87.11 for damages to the holding cell.

He was given credit for 181 days already served.
