Summit Hill man facing drug charges

A Summit Hill man is facing drug charges following an incident that occurred on Jan. 21.

Borough police said about 12:23 a.m. officers were dispatched to 102 E. White Bear Drive for a 911 call, stating there were several people in the residence, and the phone line went dead.

On scene officers knocked on the door. While waiting for an answer officer Richard Compton observed through a window, a man placing an item under a chair cushion. The door then was opened and a man identified himself as James Edward Frederick Jr., 62, and that he was the sole tenant of the home.

While speaking with Frederick in a room located in the residence, officers observed a glass pipe with a bulbous end and burn marks on it, out in plain view on a wooden coffee table. Police asked Frederick if the pipe was his, which he denied. Police asked several people who were in the home at the time about the pipe and all denied knowledge of it.

Compton then asked Frederick to lift the cushion on the chair he previously observed Frederick place something under. Frederick lifted the cushion and found was a small plastic baggie containing crystalline flakes, which later testing positive for methamphetamine.

As a result of the investigation, Frederick was charged with possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Officer Todd Woodward filed the charges.
