Summit Hill man begs police to shoot him

A Summit Hill man is facing charges following incidents that occurred on Jan. 25.

According to police, at 7:54 p.m. officers received a radio dispatch for a suicidal/homicidal man armed with a handgun who was making threats to kill people. The caller was identified as Donna Evans, mother of Frederick Charles Evans, 41, of 38 E. Richards St., Summit Hill.

She said her son had just left the residence in a black Ford F150 pickup truck and possibly going to his ex-girlfriend’s house. Officers went to that location and while speaking with the woman, they observed Evans drive by in his truck. Police attempted to stop Evans, but he failed to comply despite the emergency lights and siren on the police cruiser being activated.

Evans drove several blocks through the borough until he arrived near his residence at which time he got out of his truck and ran off. Police shouted for him to stop, but Evans refused and a Taser was deployed which incapacitated him. He was then taken into custody. Found in his vehicle was a BB/pellet type handgun.

While in custody he told officers repeatedly, that he “wanted to die,” “wanted to kill someone” and begged police to “shoot him.”

Police charged him with two counts of terroristic threats and one count of fleeing or eluding police. He was arraigned on charges Tuesday.

Bail was set at 10 percent of $75,000. He could not make bail and was taken to Carbon County prison.

Officer Brian Patrick Horos filed the charges.

Evans is scheduled to appear in county court on March 27 in connection with an eight-hour police standoff in the borough on Sept. 20, 2017.
