Twelve Northern Lehigh High School students are among the chosen ones to exhibit their vast musical ability.

They will join more than 100 of the best student musicians in Lehigh County at the 60th annual Lehigh County Honors Band Concert.

The concert, hosted by Parkland High School. will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Parkland High School Auditorium.

The snow date is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday.

The host director this year is Jason Lerew, Parkland High School band director.

Northern Lehigh Band Director David Carroll said the students who have been selected for the festival this year include Emily Bachman (junior), Lorenzo Cozzi (senior), Austin Deibert (junior), Kyle Detweiler (senior), Charles Fleischmann (junior), Dylan Kuntz (sophomore), Nick Lehman (senior), Mike Martineau (junior), Samantha Papay (senior), Kira Rex (senior), Catherine Shelly (sophomore) and Brianna Strohl (junior).

“The purpose of this festival is to promote music education in our schools, showcase the great musical talent that exists in Lehigh County, and to give our band students a unique and enriching instrumental experience which extends beyond the typical concert band settings that exist in most public schools,” Carroll said.

Carroll added, “I am pleased at the level of preparation all of the students have done to prepare for this year’s concert. I am, as always, very proud of my Northern Lehigh students.”

Northern Lehigh last hosted this honors festival in 2013 and previously in 2003.

The Lehigh County Honors band consists of students from the high schools in Lehigh County: Northern Lehigh, Southern Lehigh, Whitehall, Northwestern Lehigh, Catasauqua, Salisbury, Allentown Central Catholic, Parkland, Dieruff and William Allen High School.

The students are selected to represent their schools by the Lehigh County Band Directors Association in December.

The festival concert requires twenty hours of rehearsal by the students and band directors.

Selections for this year’s concert are: “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “James Bond Medley,” “Flourish for Wind Band,” “Scramble,” “The Spring Sketches,” “Washington Post March,” “Roller Coaster,” “Symphonic Suite from Star Trek,” “The Rains of Scarborough Fair” and “Undecim.”
