A call on Jan. 1, at 12:51 a.m., had officers responding to West Grant Street for a disturbance. Several people gathered outside a residence told officers a woman inside, Acmed Ventura, 29, was out of control. As officers spoke to the group, Ventura appeared at a window facing the front porch. She tore the screen part out of the window, trying to hit police and a bystander with the screen.

As officers were placing her in handcuffs, she bit an officer in the arm. After the handcuffs were secured, officers escorted her to a patrol car. She spat at officers and struck an emergency medical technician who was trying to check on her medical condition.

She was arraigned before the on call District Magisterial Judge, charged with two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment. The judge set bail at $25,000 unsecured.
