Writers’ group forming

Several local authors are looking to get together with other fiction and nonfiction writers to form a local writers’ group.

Talking with experienced writers is a great way to find a direction or learn something new about the craft. However, even those with little or no experience can provide insight and be a beacon for someone else.

It’s the desire to create words that’s more important than how many words you’ve already committed to paper.

The group is in the planning stage. Organizers want to structure a group that will offer encouragement, inspiration and information, as well as be motivating, supportive and add value.

To be successful, organizers believe the group needs to have as much input as possible from other writers about what the face of a writers group should eventually look like.

For example, some writers might think it’s important to read their work and receive constructive criticism, while others may only be interested in pointed and themed discussions about the elements of writing a story, such as character and plot development.

Others may be focused on learning the business, finding an agent, writing a blog or fleshing out the bones of their current novel.

Whatever your personal interests, a writers group can help you achieve your goal.
