Lehighton state police investigate crashes

State police at Lehighton reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers over the past weekend.

A one-vehicle crash was reported at 3:08 p.m. along Forest Inn Road in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Trooper said Ronald Berger, 76, of Palmerton, was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry southbound when the vehicle encountered moving water on the road causing him to lose control. The car struck the guide rail along the west berm and came to rest facing north.

Berger was not injured but the vehicle had to be towed.

A crash was reported at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday along Fiddletown Road in Eldred Township, Monroe County. Arlene Farrell, 59, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer northbound and negotiating a left-hand curve when she drove over a patch of ice causing her to lose control of the vehicle. The Ford went onto the berm and struck an embankment turning the vehicle onto its side. The vehicle then continued north with the rear striking a tree which resulted in Farrell being ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle then traveled across the road and struck a second tree where it came to rest.

Farrell was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pocono campus, East Stroudsburg, by West End ambulance. She was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

Another crash on Sunday, a 9:10 a.m., occurred along Kunkletown Road in Eldred Township. Troopers said William J. Anderson, 70, of Brodheadsville, and Margaret L. Ueltzen, 65, of Saylorsburg, were both westbound. After both drivers negotiated a left-hand curve Ueltzen stopped to turn left into her driveway. Anderson attempted to avoid a collision but could not with the front of his 2017 Ford F150 truck striking the rear of Ueltzen’s 2008 Subaru Forester.

Anderson and his passenger, Marie C. Anderson, 68, same address, and Ueltzen were all not injured. Troopers cited Anderson for following too closely.
