A Lehighton man has been accused of selling liquor to minors.

Kyle Hagenbuch, 23, of the 300 block of North Second Street, has been charged with selling or furnishing liquor or malt or brewed beverages to minors.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Corey Frey of the Mahoning Township Police Department:

On Sept. 2, Frey investigated a two-car crash in the area of Blakeslee Boulevard Drive East and Mahoning Mountain Road.

The first vehicle, operated by an unidentified driver, was being driven eastbound without using its headlights.

At the intersection, a second vehicle was attempting to make a left turn onto Mahoning Mountain Road from Route 443.

The driver of the second vehicle was unable to see the first vehicle coming because the headlights were not activated.

The vehicle began to make its turn when it was struck by the other vehicle in the intersection.

During the course of the investigation, Frey located a case of Seagrams wine coolers in the back seat behind the driver’s seat of the first vehicle.

The case of Seagrams was seized, as none of the occupants were over the age of 21.

Frey questioned the driver as to where he got the case of Seagrams, and he said that he got it at Giant.

Frey asked if he had paid someone to get it for him, but he said that he did not.

Frey asked who bought the alcohol for him, but he would not give him a name.

On a separate date, Mahoning Township Police Chief Audie Mertz contacted Giant Asset Protection and provided them with a copy of the receipt and requested they check camera footage.

Asset Protection reviewed their cameras and were able to find the transaction.

Asset Protection provided video and still images from the purchase.

Frey reviewed the video and still images and was able to identify the man who made the purchase as Kyle Hagenbuch.

While watching the video, Frey saw Hagenbuch meet the driver at Giant.

Both men went to the aisle where the alcohol was displayed, as the driver points out what he wants and Hagenbuch purchases it for him.

Hagenbuch then carries the alcohol out of the store and places it in the driver’s vehicle.

Hagenbuch is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 31 before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek in Lansford.
