Mother pleads guilty in year-old son’s drowning death

HARRISBURG (AP) — The mother of a year-old boy who drowned after she left him and his toddler sister alone in a bathtub has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

Kathryn Jacoby also pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of child endangerment. The 26-year-old Harrisburg woman could face a lengthy prison term when she’s sentenced Feb. 20.

Authorities found the boy when they responded to the family’s home in August 2016. The child was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead there a short time later.

Authorities say Jacoby provided several inconsistent stories about what happened before she eventually admitted to leaving her children unattended for a period of time while she was on the phone. She also admitted consuming alcohol and using marijuana before putting the children in the bathtub.
