Police uncover sawed-off shotgun in traffic stop

When state police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks made a traffic stop at 8:27 p.m. Dec. 13 in Tremont Borough, they found the driver of the vehicle was wanted on an active bench warrant and a sawed-off shotgun was inside the vehicle.

Police said Brett Robert Reed, 31, of Tremont, was driving the vehicle and he was also wanted in Schuylkill County Court, resulting in him being taken into custody.

Police said while in custody, Reed told them there was a shotgun on the passenger side of the vehicle. The gun was retrieved and found to be modified with a sawed-off barrel and pistol grip.

Police said the gun was located on the floorboard where Avery Gebhard, 22, of Tremont, was seated. He will be charged with possession of prohibited offensive weapons.
