Carbon woman admits to four retail thefts

A Carbon County woman admitted to four counts of retail thefts, all targeting Walmart in Mahoning Township, to pay for her drug addiction.

Alaina Jayne Jacobs, 24, of Lehighton, entered pleas to the four counts on Friday in the county court before Judge Joseph J. Matika, telling the court she stole to get money for a drug addiction.

In all four cases the Walmart store in Mahoning Township was the victim. Charges were filed by township police.

Jacobs said since her last arrest she had been getting counseling for a drug addiction and claimed she has been drug free for four months. She also said she has gotten full-time employment.

Matika placed her on probation for two years on all the counts with the terms running concurrently. She must also make restitution to Walmart of $442.13, render 100 hours of community service, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation and stay out of Walmart for the duration of the probation period.
