Police: Man fled after found with drugs

A 23-year-old Kunkletown man is in jail after fleeing police earlier this month after they found him passed out in a car with the engine running.

Police said they responded to the area of Weir Lake Road and Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township at 1:42 a.m. Nov. 8 for a report of a man being passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle that was running while positioned in the southbound lane of Route 209. Police said they found John Patrick Conway III passed out and saw a small clear/blue-tinted ziplock bag that contained suspected methamphetamine.

Police said they were able to awaken Conway. However, he would not roll down the window of the driver’s side of the vehicle and then fled the scene in the vehicle.

Police pursued Conway with their emergency lights and sirens activated for several miles. During this time Conway was swerving into the northbound lanes of Route 209, where the vehicle almost crashed on several occasions.

Police said Conway was eventually stopped at the intersection of Route 209 and Gilbert Road and was taken into custody without further incident with the suspects methamphetamine being located on the front driver’s seat.

Police said Conway was suspected to be driving under the influence of the controlled substance and admitted to officers he had snorted the drug earlier in the night.

He was taken to Monroe County Correctional Facility on a warrant and is currently awaiting arraignment on the additional charges, police said.
