Pleasant Valley High School Drama Club is busy perfecting its fall production of Our Miss Brooks

The 1950’s popular television show “Our Miss Brooks,” which has been turned into a heartwarming production, will be staged by Pleasant Valley’s High School Drama Club this weekend.

The production is based on the TV series that ran from 1952-1956 and starred Eve Arden as Miss Brooks, an English teacher who is coerced into directing the high school play even though she knows that it will cause conflict between herself and basketball coach Hugo Longacre over use of the gymnasium.

Miss Brooks is played by Rachel Estrella and Longacre is played by Zach Smith. The story is one of constant conflict between the two, which is complicated by Brooks’ romantic interest in Longacre.

Miss Brooks finds herself in a position of trying to appease more than just the basketball coach, when she is pressured by Principal Wadsworth (Giovanni Marini) to cast Rhonda (Grace Trebour) in all of the best roles to keep her school board member mother, Mrs. Allen (Brianna Barth) happy.

The pressure on Miss Brooks mounts when the star basketball player, Ted (Anthony Long), decides to try his hand at acting.

This turn of events leaves Jane (Brianna Cicalese) who plays opposite Ted very happy, since she already has a crush on him.

“The story becomes one series of calamities and misunderstandings after another,” said director Dan Mulligan.

The comedy is under the direction of Dan and Marcie Mulligan and production assistant Donna Morris.

Other cast members include: Danielle Cleary (Sylvia), Terrance Cleary (Martin), Sam Brooks (Doris), Miranda Carmella (Miss Finch), Aubrey Snyder (Marge), Miranda Meek (Elsie), Teagan Angell (Elaine), Madison Jackson (Miss Audubon) Jaxon Havens (Stanley), Chris Dela Cruz (Larry) and Madison O’Neill (Faith).

Show times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased at the door the day of the production.
