Message to students: ‘Freedom’s not free’

There’s a steep price our veterans pay, and continue to pay, to serve the country they so love.

As a small token of their appreciation, Lehighton Area Middle School students honored local servicemen and women during a Veterans Day program held Friday afternoon.

Principal Jennifer Evans welcomed those in attendance.

Beth Hudlow and the Lehighton Area Middle School brass section performed the national anthem.

A video titled “I Fought For You” was then played.

Stephen Ebbert, dean of students, followed with a history of Veterans Day.

“Freedom’s not free,” Ebbert said. “Not every country in the world enjoys the freedoms that we do.”

Ebbert and several middle school students then read from the Freedom Shrine.

Students who read were Logan Kester, James Griffin Traylor, Emma Drehemsis, Jaiden Muffley, Koy Wentz and Alyssa Meyers.

An Armed Forces medley and recognition of the service flags was given by Lehighton UVO Commander Kevin “Spike” Long.

Evans then recognized the Lehighton Area Middle School veterans who have served, including Ebbert and Long.
