Tamaqua council reappoints members to borough authorities

Tamaqua council met in executive session on Tuesday before the public meeting to discuss personnel matters. An executive session was also held at the end of the meeting for personnel matters at the request of Weaver, with no action taken after the session before the adjournment of the meeting.

The Tamaqua Borough Council reappointed members to three borough authorities during Tuesday’s meeting, all with unanimous votes.

The reappointment requests were submitted to the council in writing and read by borough Secretary-Treasurer Georgia Depos DeWire. All reappointments are effective on Jan. 1, 2018, and end on Dec. 31, 2022.

The first request was from Tamaqua Area Water Authority Secretary F. Patrick Davison that recommended the reappointment of Jack Kulp for a five-year term.

Tamaqua Borough Authority Chairman Brian Connely recommended the reappointment of Paul Fridirici for five years, and Connely, who also chairs the Tamaqua Community Revitalization and Improvement Zone Authority, also recommended the reappointment of Fridirici to that authority board.

The council also received a request from Justin Startzel, an event organizer of the Tamaqua Community Pep Rally, which will be held Oct. 25 beginning at 5 p.m. at the South Ward Playground on Penn Street, one block from the Tamaqua Area High School.

Startzel requested permission to close and prohibit parking on Oak Street from Race to Penn streets, and on Race Street from Oak to Green streets. The council approved the request for Oct. 25, with a reschedule date of Oct. 26.

The information about the pep rally provided by Startzel says, “The Tamaqua football program, from the entire knee-high program to the varsity level, will be recognized, along with their cheerleaders. This pep rally is to bring the Tamaqua community together and promotes good spirit and helps cheer on our Raiders as they face our rival, the Marian Colts.”
