HalloWINE Weekend to help homeless families

HalloWINE Weekend to Help Area Homeless Families

Galen Glen Winery, 255 Winter Mountain Drive, Andreas, will host its fifth annual drive, HalloWINE Weekend, to benefit Family Promise of Carbon County on Oct. 28 and 29. Family Promise of Carbon County relies on support from businesses and individuals to provide services and address homelessness in the area.

Oct. 22 through Oct. 29 is National Family Promise Week. During that time, visitors are encouraged to stop at the winery for a tasting and bring along some bare necessities like shampoo, soap, deodorant, diapers, wipes, cleaning products and monetary donations.

On the weekend of Oct. 28-29, the winery will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offering a special pairing. In addition, on Oct. 29, Aunt Jackie’s Pierogi Food Truck will be on-site from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. offering a brunch menu including their handmade pierogies.

Family Promise of Carbon County is based in Lehighton and allows homeless families to stay together.

Unlike most shelters where women and children and men are separated into separate wings, this program allows families to stay and live together in the day center where they learn new skills to find better jobs and then in the evening at host churches where they have their own bedrooms. They are the only homeless program in the county for families.
