Winery fires up breast cancer fundraising with chili and Chambourcin

Galen Glen Winery, 255 Winter Mountain Drive, Andreas, will offer visitors to the winery an opportunity to taste a sample of the 2017 Chili Cook-Off winning chili this weekend, during Chambourcin Weekend. Each year the winner of the cook-off gets a gift certificate, bragging rights and their winning recipe is used for a wine trail event. Entry forms for the January 2018 Chili Cook Off will be available this weekend.

Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the winery will also be hosting Joyce’s Crafts for a Cure.

“I met Joyce when she visited her daughter who works in our tasting room,” Kathy Matson, the winery’s tasting room manager, said. “She’s a pretty incredible lady who lost a good friend to breast cancer at the age of 24. She’s raised over $36,000 for The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade that helps support scientific research, educational, support and screening services. We wanted to support her as she prepares to walk again in 2018.”

The crafter will be at the winery on Saturday and Sunday, selling handcrafted gifts and home décor.

Maston is encouraging the community to come out, enjoy some wine and a sample of chili from the recipe of current champion, Cheryl Leone of New Ringgold.

“If you think you have a better recipe, pick up an entry form and throw your chef’s cap into our ring of fire!”

The tasting room is open Wednesday through Friday, noon to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
