John Palmer Cleland Jr., 51, of West Catawissa Street, Nesquehoning, has been arrested by Nesquehoning police on charges of simple assault and harassment stemming from an incident at 6:38 p.m. Wednesday at his residence.

Police said they were told by a woman that Cleland was intoxicated and struck her in the face. She said the incident started when her 3-year-old daughter told her that Cleland was urinating on a play chair and she began hitting him on the back to get him to stop. Police said Cleland turned and struck the victim on the chin.
