Tamaqua news for Sept. 27

Andreas parade

The annual Andreas Halloween Parade is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 18.

Sponsored by the West Penn Lions/Lioness Club and the Andreas Sporting Club, the parade will begin forming at 6:15 p.m. at the sporting club. Spectators will have the chance to see the marchers twice as the route starts at the club, then circles around and returns to the starting point.

Refreshments will be provided to participants and prizes will be awarded.

Entries must be registered by Oct. 13 to be eligible for prizes.

Tamaqua seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Sept. 21 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 49 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “Bow and Believe on the Winds of Prayer.”

The meeting included an election of officers, with Weicker re-elected to the president’s position. Other officers are: Nancy Gerber, vice president; Ruthann Feane, secretary; and Norma Lee Burke, treasurer.

Upcoming trips include: Oct. 20, Mohegan Sun Casino in Wilkes-Barre; Dec. 14, Christmas party.

The group is open to anyone 55 or older. Meetings are held at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St. The Aug. 24 meeting will include the celebration of July and August birthdays.

Heart gala

The Tamaqua Has Heart Gala and Auction will be held on Sept. 28 at the former Scheid’s Building, 24 W. Broad St.

A preview and registration session will be held at 6 p.m. with the auction slated to begin at 7 p.m.

Soup social

The next monthly community soup social at Trinity United Church of Christ will be held on Oct. 7. The social will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the social hall.

The meal is free to the public and everyone is welcome to enjoy the soup, desserts, refreshments and time with friends.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Harvest Home Sunday in Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.

Bible study sessions are held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The Guild will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 5.

A turkey and waffle dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 7.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also this Sunday, the Reason for God growth group will meet at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, Celebrate Recovery meets at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer gathering at 8:30 a.m., celebrate Recovery training at 10 a.m.; Wednesday, TYM REMIX meets at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Membership Matters growth group begins at 7 p.m., worship team practice at 7 p.m., worship leaders meet at 8 p.m.

Primitive Methodist

Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service on Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. The service will include communion. Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.

Also this Sunday, the monthly service will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Hometown Nursing Center.

A Gideon area team leader meeting will be held 10 a.m. Oct. 7.
