Mill Pond Road Bridge scheduled to be replaced in 2020

Residents and Polk Township Supervisors met with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation consulting engineers to discuss the replacement of the bridge that spans the Pohopoco Creek on Mill Pond Road.

The project is scheduled to begin in April 2020 and will be completed in time to accommodate West End Fair traffic in August.

Mill Pond Road is located right off Route 209 and becomes Fairgrounds Road once it crosses over the intersection at Gilbert Road.

Traffic will be detoured along Route 209 and Gilbert Road during the construction phase. The length of the detour is 1.25 miles.

The new bridge will be a single-span bridge, and the center supports from the existing bridge will be eliminated as part of the demolition phase. The new bridge will have guide rails and be slightly wider than the current bridge, which was constructed in 1949.
